Educators from across Australia are warmly invited to the Queensland First Nations Catholic Education Conference – Heart on Country. This transformative three-day event will explore how culture, faith and learning can be woven together to create inclusive, empowering educational environments for First Nations students.
A central theme of the conference is holistic education, which recognises the interconnectedness of identity, spirituality and academic growth. Through this lens, educators will be equipped to nurture the emotional, social and intellectual development of First Nations students, honouring their unique stories and strengths.
The experience begins with a powerful cultural immersion on Day One at the beautiful Bunya Mountains – Booburrgan Ngmmunge (boo-barr-an ngummin), a sacred site for the Jarowair people.
Meaning “mother’s breast,” Booburrgan Ngmmunge is a place of deep cultural significance for First Nations communities across Southeast Queensland and beyond. Located 110 kilometres from Toowoomba, this awe-inspiring destination is home to the world’s largest natural stand of Bunya trees and offers rich opportunities for reflection, connection, and learning.
The conference will continue over the next two days in the heart of Toowoomba featuring keynote speaker Noel Pearson, a distinguished Australian lawyer and founder of the Cape York Partnership and Good to Great Schools Australia. Noel’s leadership and advocacy for educational equity will inspire and challenge us to think deeply about how we support all learners.
Stay tuned as we announce additional guest speakers and workshops to the conference agenda.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of First Nations students by fostering environments that celebrate and respect our rich cultural heritage.
